UNESCO and the Jahangirnagar University Department of Public Health & Informatics will host a five day training on teaching of ethics in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This training is designed for teachers of ethics at university level based on the UNESCO Bioethics Core Curriculum (see http://www.unesco.org/new/en/social-and-human-sciences/themes/bioethics/ethics-education-programme/activities/development-of-a-core-course-in-bioethics/) developed by UNESCO in collaboration with global experts in ethics education. It is suitable for many disciplines including medicine, science, engineering, social science and the humanities.
The course contains the following key components:
1. Global Perspectives on Ethics Teaching
2. Ethics Teaching in Action
3. Classroom activities
4. Classroom communication
5. Examples of ethics teaching in Asia and local adaptation
UNESCO and the Jahangirnagar University will provide tuition, learning materials, lunches, morning and afternoon tea, and daily transfer to the venue (limited to nearby accommodation) for all participants. Travel, accommodation and other meals will be the responsibility of individual participants. The Jahangirnagar University will provide advice for those seeking low cost local accommodation. Limited travel scholarships may be awarded to persons living outside Dhaka who show financial hardship.
Applicants should be involved in teaching or developing ethics courses at university level, with preferably a Masters degree in a related discipline.
